1- PD Course Enrollment

How do I sign-up for PD?

You will first need to create an account on our LMS (Learning Management System).

Click the "Sign-up" button in the upper right corner and fill in your information. We will activate your account within 24 hours!

If you already have a MarcoPolo LMS account, simply click "Login" and you will be taken to your dashboard.

How do I register for a course?

  • To enroll in a course, go to the main dashboard on the LMS (click the 'back' button from the homepage, then click 'home' to see your dashboard).
  • On the left panel, you'll see "Course Catalog."
  • Once you click on that, you'll be able to see the current course selection. Follow the instructions to enroll in a course.
  • Please note whether the course says "LIVE" or "On-DEMAND". Each course has options for both during different periods of the year.

What is the difference between the live and on-demand courses?

The content is the same within each course topic; the delivery is different.

  • If you take a "LIVE" course, you'll attend a live zoom session at the start of the course. The live session is interactive and you will participate in polls and live chat questions. After attending the live zoom session, you will continue with the remaining assignments on your own time.
  • If you take the "ON-DEMAND" course, you'll watch pre-recorded videos on your own time, and complete the assignments.

2 - Policies and Procedures

Who is eligible to participate in the PD courses?

To be eligible, you must work at a school or childcare program that has a subscription with MarcoPolo Learning. Additionally, you must currently work as an early childhood teacherdirectorcoachcurriculum coordinator, or other support staff member, specifically working with children ages three to seven.

What are the participation requirements?

  • Participants must attend the full two-hour session for live virtual courses. If a live session is missed, you must watch the recording and answer the chat questions on the discussion board to pass that section.
  • For on-demand courses, attendance means completing all instructional videos and answering online module questions. Completing all assignments and practical activities is mandatory to receive the in-service hours certification. Active participation in virtual discussions and activities is also expected.

What support and resources are available?

All course materials are provided, including access to MarcoPolo Learning's LMS, MarcoPolo For Educators, and MarcoPolo For Families. Support from instructors is available via email, the LMS messaging system, and optional coaching office hours.

What if I need an extension for the course?

If you need an extension, you must submit a formal written request to the course instructor before the course end date, including the reason for the extension and any supporting documentation. We will review the request and respond within five business days. Extensions are granted on a case-by-case basis and can be granted once for an additional month to complete the course.

3 - Professional Development Courses

How are the courses structured?

Each course is four hours long and must be completed within one month of starting. Courses blend live virtual instruction (or on-demand recordings), video tooltips, practical assignments, quizzes, coaching check-ins, and discussion boards.

What are the objectives of the courses?

The courses aim to help educators connect the presented content to their classroom practices, implement best practices into their daily routines, and share their existing strengths with their professional community.

How will I be assessed?

Ongoing assessments will be conducted through quizzes, class participation, and practical demonstrations. A final multiple-choice quiz is administered at the end of the course to demonstrate understanding and application of the course material. Feedback on quiz performance is provided, and more personalized feedback is given via the community discussion board.

How do I move on from each section within a course?

At the end of each unit, you'll see a blue box at the bottom of the page that has the title of the next unit (you may need to scroll down). Click on that box to move on. Some units are timed, and you will be able to click the box once the timer finishes. Some units have a question that you'll need to answer before moving on.

How do I post on the discussion board?

The discussion board is a required assignment in which you will post what you have tried out with your students and reply to other teachers. Click on the unit "Discussion Board Post" and you will see instructions.

How do I move on from the discussion board unit?

The discussion board unit is a timed unit; you have 10 minutes to add your post and respond to another teacher. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, and once the 10 minutes is up, you'll see that the box can be clicked to move on to the next unit.

Can I access the course content on my phone?

You will need to download the Talent LMS app in order to fully access the content. Find more information here: https://help.talentlms.com/hc/en-us/articles/360015111774-What-are-the-recommended-devices-for-using-the-TalentLMS-app

What is the difference between MPFE, MPFF, and the LMS?

  • MPFE (MarcoPolo For Educators) is the educator-facing platform containing curriculum-aligned digital and printable resources to use with your students in your classroom. Videos are available in multiple languages and each video is accompanied by an Educator Guide providing you with discussion questions, hands-on activities, and family engagement. You also have access to our curriculum filter, to find video content that aligns with your current unit of study. On MPFE, you can create personalized playlists to be shared with families and colleagues.
  • MPFF (MarcoPolo For Families) is the child-facing app containing all of the videos and contextualized learning games available to children and families. Children can freely explore and/or watch the personalized playlists that you send them.
  • Our LMS (Learning Management System) is the platform where you will take your professional development courses. All of the coursework, instructor feedback, discussion boards, zoom sessions, and PD certificates can be found here.

Families are asking what the app is. How can I share information with them?
